Sealy Dormitory Mattress

My mattress is by Sealy. The name of it is Dormitory. Because of the fact that I live in a dormitory, they are not able to afford the most expensive beds. After all, the dormitory is not our home.

I can understand why it isn’t comfortable by itself, they don’t want us lounging around all day. They would like for us to further our education.

Alone, the mattress is extremely uncomfortable. When you lay on it without the mattress pad, it’s almost as if you could feel each and every spring poking you in your back. They bed is not the normal silky, cloth covering that I am used to at home.

It looks almost as if it is a latex or plastic covering, which would explain why the springs are able to be felt. Although there are many faults with this mattress, one pro about it is that it is away from my home town. I love that fact about it. Also the fact that it can be covered with an egg carton mattress pad and made a little bit more comfortable is a plus as well.

I sometimes wake up with back problems in the morning. This could be because I am sleep on what feels like a cinder block or it could be because I carry around a very heavy backpack for about 16 hours out of the day. Either way, my back usually hurts. The pain in my back could be a combination of the two things that I mentioned earlier. I did not buy the mattress myself.

I go to school and so the school bought the mattress. I am not sure how long the mattress has been here but the dorm is not very old. It is actually one of the newer dorms on campus. We are not told when the furniture was moved in, only told that it is our choice to use it or not.


I would assume that the mattress wasn’t very expensive. It is a twin size, and those usually run cheap. Also because it is an older model and all of the mattresses were purchased at the same time, they were probably around $150 a piece, but this is just an estimate.

On October 12, it made two months that I had used this particular mattress. As I stated before, it isn’t the most comfortable mattress in this whole world, but it is away from home which I think is just lovely.

This bed is unable to hold a candle to the Sealy mattress I slept on before arriving at this dorm. That mattress felt as if it might have been a bite of heaven. It was so soft and plush. The mattress was not so soft that you feel as though you may sink in and drown inside of it, just soft enough so that you can relax and recuperate after a long had day of work.

I would give the mattress in the dorm around two stars total, but I would give my mattress at home five stars. I would never buy the Sealy Dormitory out of my own free will.
