Sealy Posturepedic Laurinburg Firm Is Just Right For Us

by Sharon H.
(Manitowoc, Wisconsin)

We recently bought a new bed so we’re excited about it. We had our old bed set for almost 20 years and were desperate for a one. So now it feels like we’re sleeping on an actual bed again instead of a two-foot tall pile of sleeping bags. We chose a Sealy Posturepedic. I think the name of the style is Laurinburg Firm. Made in Chicago in this very month, September, 2014.

We are still in the recommended 30-day trial period for making sure that it’s a good fit. I’m pretty sure it will be. As the style name says, it is very firm. It has a slightly springy quilted cushion on top. Not too much.

Our last bed was king size which was too big. You might think bigger is better but for us it wasn’t. We chose queen size this time and it’s just right, even when the three cats decide to join us. I am enjoying the firmness and look forward to this bed having more stability over the years because of the slightly smaller size. Our old bed wasn’t a brand name bed. It was made by hand upon order in a small factory in Oklahoma. It probably served us well for the ten years it was recommended for but we should have replaced it many years ago.

Our new bed is much more rigid than our old. The other was so wide that it started sagging on the edges and we ended up with a significant high spot in the middle, so both our heads and our feet would be sloping down during the night. It wasn’t good. Possibly the next time we’re shopping for a bed, in five or ten years, we’ll go for a more trendy type with all the customizable options. Maybe everyone will have computerized smart beds then. For now only a traditional bed was in our budget and we’re happy with it.

Our main research was to wait for the Labor Day weekend sales. We went to the local Mattress Firm and tried out a few test mattresses. We inquired about the differences in the styles and then on a “you get what you pay for” impulse, we went with the Sealy which was $100 more than the least expensive Sealy style on sale. No fuss, no bother.

The store delivered our bed and carted the old one away. The cost was $240 for the mattress plus $90 for the box spring (style name: Mineral Foundation), plus the delivery fee, and we had to buy a new bed frame because of the change in size. I don’t know what it would have cost to get this online and I don’t want to look! Buying local is a good thing so we are pleased.
