Simmons Beautyrest Porter Extra Firm From O.co - 5 Star Rating

I just bought a brand new Beautyrest mattress for an apartment in Florida and was thrilled to find it online at Overstock.com. Having had both Beautyrest and Stearns & Foster, I knew I wanted a top quality mattress that is extra-firm – no pillow top for me. I like the Beautyrest separate inner coils that minimize movement, if two people are using the bed. The concern I had was, of course, that I couldn’t try out the mattress before buying. But I took the risk and am happy that it all worked out great.

I did a good bit of research online, but inner spring mattresses have always been hard to compare, because each retailer has a different name on a product that is probably the same on the inside. I had had great luck with Beautyrest and also with Overstock, so I finally narrowed my focus to them.

I reviewed all of the firm and extra firm options for Beautyrest mattresses on Overstock (also called O.co now), including detailed reviews by consumers of both the mattresses and the delivery service. I narrowed my choices down to firm and extra firm mattresses, which had names that did not appear in any of the local stores, as I had expected. My choices came in a couple of price options, with the higher prices appearing to have an extra layer of padding inside.

To manage my concern about not trying out a mattress in person, I went to a couple of local stores to give them a chance, try their options and check their prices on both Beautyrest and Stearns & Foster firm and extra-firm mattresses, hoping to get good prices during a Columbus Day sale. It was easy to conclude that the extra-firm mattress would be what I preferred, as I had expected, but the prices were consistently almost twice the Overstock price!

I concluded that ordering online was worth the risk, especially for a mattress that would not be used every night of the year, and I placed on order for the

Beautyrest Classic Porter Extra-Firm. The cost was about $760, hundreds of dollars less than sale prices in local stores, and the shipping fee was only $1, all the way to South Florida!

I received an email confirmation, but also called to check on how the “white glove delivery service” would work. The customer service person was helpful and reassured me. Delivery was to be within a time frame of one to 6 weeks.

In fact, the mattress came in less than two weeks and the tag said it had been manufactured, in North Carolina, just the week before and just after I placed my order! What a special feeling that gave me! I received an email alert when the mattress left the factory and a phone call from a local delivery service, the day before the proposed delivery.

The driver called about 30 minutes before he was to arrive. The delivery was professional, on time and took about two minutes. The mattress and box spring were each completely sealed inside their own plastic covers, which the movers removed, and all fabric was clean, attractive and sturdy, in white.

So far, so good! I tested out the mattress and found it exactly as I had expected and hoped. It was perfect. Very firm and solid. My Stearns & Foster Plaza is much firmer, but probably too firm for most people, and cost more than twice as much.

While this new Porter Beautyrest Mattress hasn’t been put through years of use yet, if it is anything like my previous Beautyrest mattress, it will provide years of great sleeping. And if I tire of a really hard mattress, I can add a foam topper and still have the great Beautyrest support! I’m very happy with my purchase and would buy another of the same through Overstock.
