Stearns & Foster Russell Square Luxury Firm Euro Pillow Top Is Not Comfortable

The Stearns and Foster Russell Square mattress that I purchased is a very beautiful mattress. The mattress is extremely high off the floor. The mattress is sold as a firm mattress but in fact it has an extremely soft and plush feel.

It is a very uncomfortable mattress. I felt as if I was sinking into the mattress, I did not get the support for my back that I was looking for. I had the mattress for a week and each day i slept on it my back pain intensified, I even began to experience other body aches.

I was advised by the sales person to give the mattress a chance because my body need to adjust to, I think a week is sufficient time. I have moved into my guest room and I'm returning the beautiful Stearns & Foster mattress for a not so beautiful mattress but much more comfortable.

Stearns and Foster with the heaviest springs, bought back in 2005

by Jane
(U.S.)

Sorry I don't know the model name but my Stearns and Foster mattress was $2,000. back in 2005. It was the heaviest spring model they sold, but we still encountered hip dips that just wouldn't go away and with a no flip mattress, you're kind of stuck.

If we turned the mattress 180 degrees as suggested, you'd still be in the "groove" and it got to the point where we would alternate between 45 degrees turns and 180's. It worked because an eastern king differs by only 4" from one side to the other.

This mattress was so hard that it was very uncomfortable for me, (125 lb female) although my boyfriend whose a lot heavier didn't mind it. There wasn't enough cushioning for my hips when I slept on my side, and when I slept on my back, there was still a space between my low back curve and the mattress.

The best solution was to purchase a 2" thick memory foam topper which gave me more support for hips and low back. It too gets a depression from your body, but it's much easier to rotate and you can flip it, unlike today's mattresses that are no flip. Funny enough, the mattress dents are almost gone except for what's in the memory foam topper.

Since our memory foam is not the fancy air flow kind it does make it hotter in the summer, but we enjoy the extra warmth in the winter. Toppers also tend to make it harder to roll around since you do fall into this mold.

The mattress topper idea came from my parents who had one on their super firm hotel mattress. We slept on their bed when visiting and bought a topper as soon as we got home.

We have a Simmons Beauty Rest in our guest room and which is really comfy for me but my boyfriend says it's too soft for him.
