Tempur-Pedic Classic Bed Review
The Tempur-Pedic Classic Mattress

The Tempur-Pedic Classic mattress is the key to a good night's sleep for some people. The Tempur-Pedic comments and reviews for this bed tell us that this mattress is not for everyone.

Before you buy your next mattress, its a good idea to take the time you need to find one that will suit all of your sleeping needs.

Tempur-Pedic is a familiar name to many consumers. They are the original makers of visco elastic memory foam mattresses.

These mattresses conform to the body of the sleeper and then return to their original shape when not in use.

Memory foam beds, such as the Tempur-Pedic Classic provide great spinal support. This is a medically proven fact that makes Tempur-Pedic beds a recommendation of many doctors and chiropractors.

However, it completely depends on you and your sleeping habits whether or not a Tempur-Pedic Classic mattress will actually help you sleep better.

The Composition of a Tempur-Pedic Classic Bed

A Tempur-Pedic Classic mattress is composed of three different layers of high density foam. The first layer is less than an inch thick and is composed of soft memory foam.

The next three inches are supportive 5.3 pound density foam. Finally, the last five inches are made of high density AirFlow foam that has a unique shape that allows the mattress to breathe.

This mattress is covered with a rayon-velour fabric on the top and the sides and a non-skid surface on the bottom. The cover is relatively easy to remove and wash if necessary.

The mattress itself can be spot cleaned and it is naturally resistant to mold and dust mites.

The Tempur-Pedic Classic Bed comes in sizes from twin to California king and every mattress size in between. The price for a mattress ranges from $1200 to $2600. This price does not include a foundation or frame.

The Plus Side of a Tempur-Pedic Classic

If your doctor recommends that you get more spinal support when you sleep, then the Tempur-Pedic Classic might be the mattress for you. It allows your hips and shoulders to sink in while still providing back support.

Many people find this firmer surface very comfortable and claim that they have never slept better than on a Tempur-Pedic Classic mattress. They also like the fact that it is no flip and that it has a washable cover.

Because of the AirFlow foam feature, the Classic Bed sleeps much cooler than other memory foam mattresses. There are many positive reviews that echo these words.

The Down Side of a Tempur-Pedic Classic

On the other hand, not everyone is happy with their Tempur-Pedic Classic Bed purchase. For one thing, it is an expensive mattress and many consumers are finding that a model half the price can provide the same level of comfort.

Some people don't find the Tempur-Pedic Classic Bed comfortable at all. For one thing, the mattress is firmer than many innerspring varieties.

Additionally, it can become firmer in colder weather. You would have to lay in bed longer to produce enough body heat to get the mattress to mold to you.

However, as the good points can outweigh the bad, it is worth taking a test nap on a Tempur-Pedic Classic just in case this bed is just what the doctor ordered.

Very Happy With Classic Bed

by Anonymous
(St. Paul, MN)

We've had our Tempurpedic Classic Bed for about 10 weeks and on the whole have been very happy with it.

My husband, who needs a firm bed for his back, has particularly liked it. I have had hip replacements and have trouble sleeping on my side on an inner spring mattress. So far, I've found that with the Tempurpedic I can sleep on either side without pain.

The one issue I've had, though, is fairly serious. Twice in these 10 weeks I've slid off the bed onto the floor. This has never happened to me previously, and yes, I said "slid." That's the way it felt.

Both times happened in the middle of the night while sleeping, and in both instances I felt that the bed was the problem--that I would not have fallen off a regular innerspring mattress.

I'm wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem? Both times I was sleeping on my side, and I'm wondering if I may have been two close to the edge, so that the foam compressed and allowed me to more-or-less slide off.

You Need This Mattress

by Brandon A.

I'm sure we can all agree that sleep is one of the most vital activities a human being can engage in, right?

On the other hand, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't hate getting an unsettled night's rest.

Unfortunately, without the right mattress for your bed, that will be exactly the case.

Thankfully, the right mattress does exist, you just need to find it, and I'm here to share my experience with you.

Before I begin, allow me to say that I have a very bad back, and finding the right mattress for me was absolutely crucial.

After some extensive research, and many customer reviews, I settled on the Tempur-Pedic Classic Traditional Top. I had heard a lot about this mattress from some close friends of mine, and naturally, they had all given it glowing reviews. Who was I to argue with something receiving such high praise?

I set off to my local Sleep Country Canada outlet immediately and purchased one for myself.

The first thing I noticed that for a mattress sized for a queen-size bed, the Tempurpedic Classic Traditional Top was surprisingly lightweight, which I was sure would come in handy at some point or another.

After loading the mattress up on to my bed, I put on my sheets and laid down, and words cannot describe the look that must have been cemented on my face.

The softness of the mattress and how completely welcoming it felt was simply outstanding. I had never felt comfort like this before.

The first night, anxious to get to sleep, I laid down and tucked myself in a few hours prior to when I would have usually drifted off, and what a wonderful decision I had made.

The mattress almost felt as if it was molding to my body, shaping itself to fit exactly my needs. My back had never felt so at peace before. It was incredibly soft, comfortable, and just plain enjoyable in every sense of the word.

I don't know if this had anything to do with the material of the mattress or not, but I also felt warmer than usual, which for a man living in Canada is a big plus.

You can't go wrong with the Tempur-Pedic Classic Traditional Top mattress. Soft, welcoming, and provides enough support to get a healthy, comfortable night's rest.

What more can you ask for in a mattress? Attention people with back issues, you need this mattress in your life.

Tempur Pedic ClassicBed Is Not Worth It

by Bryan C.
(MS)

I bought a 6" Tempur Pedic ClassicBed mattress from a local store in Mississippi. I believe the mattress was around 800 dollars and this was a mistake on my part paying so much money for this particular mattress. I find that it is way too soft and I feel the bed is too thin on the edges.

When I get to the edge I feel like I am going to tip off the mattress. This is a huge downside to my mattress as i like sleeping close to the edge. If I got too close to the edge and fell off I would be super mad. I guess I should have researched the mattress a little more before I bought it.

As I went back on the internet and searched the mattress there were horriboe reviews for the mattress and this would have prevented me from buying this mattress. I should have bought the tempa pedic mattress because the reviews on that mattress are wayyyy better. The durability of the mattress is great despite the other flaws of this mattress. It seems to be very tough and I believe this mattress will hold up for a very long time. I would have to give this mattress a 2 star rating because of the softness and the not well built design.

If the mattress was not so durable I would downgrade it to a 1 star rating. You must do your research on mattress before you purchase one as there are many reviews on the internet and they will help you decide if the mattress you are buying is going to last and be comfortable.

All in all i would not recommend this mattress if you are looking to purchase a new one. The price is not worth it and the time and hassle you will have to deal with this mattress is very poor. I suggest the tempa pedic - much more comfortable mattress.

ClassicBed Has Been Fabulous

by Jen
(Londonderry, NH)

We bought our Tempurpedic Classic Bed mattress at Jordan's furniture in 2005 (while I was 6 months pregnant). It has been fabulous. I was experiencing significant back pain during my pregnancy and after buying the mattress, it nearly disappeared.

While the mattress was expensive ($1200), it has been worth the price. I am a very active sleeper and my husband has noticed that he doesn't feel me moving around since we purchased the mattress.

The only down side is that our kids always want to sleep with us as our mattress is much more comfortable than theirs. I would definitely recommend this mattress to others and would buy it again.

Tempurpedic Classic Vs. Rhapsody Bed

by J.M.
(Cleveland, OH, USA)

My wife (38) and I (42) prefer a firm mattress, and we first purchased the Classic Tempurpedic.

We were intrigued by memory foam, liked the projected longevity, had read lots of good reviews, and the Tempurpedic Classic felt good in the store.

However, we were not prepared for the "off-gassing" smell that Tempurpedic mattresses have when they arrive. It took a good 3 - 4 weeks of airing out the room before my wife felt comfortable sleeping on it.

Our salesperson also said that it takes time to get used to a Tempurpedic, so when I woke most mornings with back pain (which did not exist before), I thought I'd wait it out.

Two and a half months went by and I still awoke with back pain two out of three days, though my wife was fine with the comfort. Since Tempurpedic has a 90 day trial period (with a fee for exchanging), we decided to try memory foam one more time and went up to the Rhapsody model.

We were more prepared for the off-gassing this time, putting fans in the windows, using Bounce dryer sheets, and even putting cut apples in the room to absorb the smell.

After about a week I felt comfortable sleeping in the room. The Rhapsody is better than the Classic and seems very good for side sleepers, but as a back sleeper, regretably this still does not work for me.

At $3,500 for a mattress set, I shouldn't feel this way. So, we are now shopping for a mattress again *sigh* and are moving away from memory foam. Still miss my old two-sided mattress that we had for 14 years.
